The Mysteries of SEM

I posted a photo “Water play with the girls in the backyard” on Twitter – trying to make it sound somewhat different what it actually was and Google picked up on it and added the most appropriate Text ad: “Is there a

God?” Now either Google algorithms are really smart or really stupid. Unfortunately the link results were somewhat of an anticlimax – nothing interesting to read. As Tom Stoppard had his protagonist, a professor for Ethics in “Jumpers” (1973) wonder – “what if Good has unlimited qualities, including that of all-wheel-drive but just not that of existence?”.

When you see these girls playing in the pool, you are in direct contact with a higher force – just most likely not a God that lends himself/herself to be marketed as a church and for humans to make money on selling belief.

It’s the looks! The Ma(i)d PC computer case

We all know looks matter. And the converted ones who use a Mac know that looks matter most where they matter – on the screen. But in case you don’t follow the form-follows-function belief and want something that gets your friends to laugh for at least 15 seconds, how about a reasonably sexist, technically underpowered and in any conceivable way useless computer tower that not only takes up a lot of space but also sells for more without any actual computer hardware inside than a reasonable fully-feature desktop machine in 2008 state-of-the art? Yes the mad/made/maid computer case.

It’s the novelty – that wears off faster than you can spell it.

It has no brains – you need to buy a motherboard, hard disk, memory extra and it has no looks – but hey you could watch people tripping over those legs sticking out, that may be fun?

In case you wonder: its USD499 at Japan Trend Shop

iPhone Life 2.0

It’s alive! I know I missed the best part – all the excitment of waiting in front of an Apple store for hours – the community, the comeraderie and the whole feel-good about a joint experience – especially not being able to connect to the servers to activate your phone.

I created my own thrill downloading the 2.0 Firmware one day early when few people were activating their phones – and yes it works; it is no longer the latest and greatest but it is great enough and 3G will get to mee soon, maybe after the motherboard got one more rev.

So yes, it’s obsolete and I got those looks from people – “Have you got a 3G?” – mostly people who live on “free” phones from their company.

I did not read all the reviews but from what I saw, the firmware update is much more valuable than the new hardware clunker.
